Snow days in London don’t come around often — so when they do, it’s time to grab the sledges and get outside. While London isn’t exactly the Alps, there are plenty of great hills across the city (and just beyond) that become perfect for sledding when snow hits.
Here are some of the tried-and-tested best places to go sledding in London with the kids.
Greenwich Park (South East London)
One of London’s most popular sledding spots for a reason. The wide open hills near the Observatory are steep enough for a good run, with plenty of space for families. It gets busy fast when it snows, so early visits are best.
Hampstead Heath (North London)
Hampstead Heath offers some of the longest and steepest slopes in London. Parliament Hill is a firm favourite, with amazing views on clear days. Great for older children, but keep an eye on little ones due to the steeper drops.
Alexandra Palace (North London)
“Ally Pally” is a classic sledding destination. The large slopes behind the palace provide long runs and plenty of space. It’s popular with families and usually well supervised when snow falls.

Primrose Hill (Central London)
Smaller than some other locations but ideal for younger children. Its gentle slope and central location make it a great option if you want a quick snow fix without travelling far.
Blackheath (South East London)
Open, spacious and less steep than nearby Greenwich Park, Blackheath is perfect for families with younger children. Plenty of room to spread out and sled safely and to build snowmen!
Parliament Hill Fields (Hampstead Heath)
Often quieter than other parts of the Heath, this area still offers excellent slopes and is a good alternative if the main hills are too crowded.
Hainault Forest Country Park (North East London)
A fantastic option for East London families. When snow hits, the natural slopes become ideal for sledding, with lots of open space and a countryside feel without leaving London.
South Weald Country Park (Just Outside London – Essex)
Technically just outside London, but well worth the mention. South Weald is a favourite with Essex and North East London families thanks to its wide hills, open fields and family-friendly layout. It also happens to be the one closest to London for Kidz HQ and we can highly recommend!

Safety Tips for Snowy Fun
Always check slopes for ice, trees or paths before sledding
Keep younger children on gentler hills
Wrap up warmly and bring gloves (sledding gets cold fast!)
Be mindful of others sharing the space
Snow days don’t last long in London, so when they arrive, make the most of them. These spots offer some of the best sledding fun the city has to offer — no mountain pass required.
